Small Business FinanceForum has a panel of expert OWLS who provide to you Opportunity, Wisdom, Leverage and Sustainable Finance knowledge.  They bring over 100 combined years of real experience.

These OWLS are veterans in commercial banking and finance who understand the needs of owners in balancing credit, risk and cash flow as you grow.  They will provide expert advice in:

  • A new view of business analysis
  • Suggestions for financing growth and expansion
  • Rules of thumb for structuring mergers, acquisitions, divestitures
  • Ways you can restructure debt and equity
  • How to improve operational cash flow
  • Ways you should evaluate and manage your risk.

The OWLS will be featured in plenary talks, will be advising participants on 1:1 basis, and evaluating the Pitches.  In addition, they will be available for networking and questions over lunches and the final Reception and Awards night.

David Badalucco

David Badalucco, CPA, CA is a Senior Tax Manager with Grant Thornton LLC. He specializes in corporate and personal tax planning for owner-managed businesses in a variety of industries. His practice encompasses personal income tax planning, including estate freezes, the establishment, operation and reorganization of estate planning structures, and business and wealth succession planning. Additionally, he assists clients with tax compliance and resolving disputes at the audit level within the Canada Revenue Agency.

Joan Chambers

Joan Chambers is a Partner with Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. She advises domestic and international clients on a full range of business matters, complex commercial transactions, joint ventures, procurement, financings and mergers and acquisitions. Joan is also experienced with corporate governance matters.

Joan has been ranked among Canada’s top lawyers in The Best Lawyers in Canada (2016, 2017 and 2018) in the areas of Corporate Governance Practice, Leveraged Buyouts and Private Equity Law. She is an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Victoria and previously served as Board Chair of Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s BC/Yukon Region.

Caroline Coudreau

Caroline Coudreau is a Community Business and Investment Account Manager at Vancity. She gives small and medium sized businesses a keen understanding of operational cash flow and how it can be managed to improve their business’ success and provides her clients with special considerations when starting up a new business. Caroline has been with Vancity for 5 years and has experience with retail lending, mortgage lending, underwriting and business analysis. Caroline is completing the Chartered Professional Accountant program and participates in Each One, Grow One and Each One, Teach One initiatives, serves on a committee for the Society for the Promotion of Environmental Conservation, and is member of the Board of Change.

Tyler Davis

Tyler Davis, MBA is a Senior Client Relationship Manager for Scotiabank with a focus on commercial clients in the Vancouver marketplace with financing needs from $5M to $20M. Previously with Coast Capital Savings, Tyler has an extensive background in Commercial Lending. He assists clients with revenues from $200k to $200m in obtaining solutions for working capital, equipment financing, property acquisition and expansion capital. Before entering commercial banking, Tyler held business development positions in venture capital, tech start-ups and technology transfer so he holds perspectives from both the equity and entrepreneur viewpoint to support his current role in debt financing.

Angelique Meyer

Angelique Meyer, MBA, PCC is Vice President Leadership, Assessment & Development at Optimum Talent. She works with clients to create strategies and implement programs using an integrated Talent Solution approach. These strategies include Executive Coaching, Succession Planning, Emerging Leaders, Talent Development, Executive and Team Assessments. Over the past ten years she has been an executive coach for C-Suite leaders in the Oil and Gas, Big Box Retail, Aviation and Healthcare industries. Her clients have won awards for leadership development programs and creating an exceptional service culture.

Monica Murray

Monica Murray, CPA, CA is Vice President Executive Search at Optimum Talent. She has over two decades of leadership in finance, accounting, board work and entrepreneurship which led to founding the executive search firm Higher Resources in 2004. She headed that team for six years, maintaining a candidate retention rate of 96%. More recently, Monica provided CFO consulting services and served as Principal, Diversity & Inclusion for CPA Canada where she combined her extensive knowledge of the CPA profession with her passion for supporting diversity and women in business & leadership.

Amarjit Pandher

Amarjit Pandher is a Senior Client Relations Manager at ScotiaBank with a 17 years of management and business development experience in the Financial Services industry. He works with on customized financial solutions to mid-market clients and performs financial and risk analysis reports. He is a Director of the Risk Management Association of Fraser Valley and uses his experience to educate clients about current and upcoming market challenges.

William Rajalingham

William is a Community Business and Investment Account Manager at Vancity.  He is a 15-year veteran of Credit Union system and offers advice, recommendations, and solutions for sustainable business practices and supply-chain management. William offers a holistic approach to business owners to help streamline and meet their financial needs.  A big believer in community and the real economy, William thrives at the prospect of truly making a difference in the lives of each business owner, their employees, community, and environment.

Bruce Richter

Bruce Richter is a Senior Risk Manager in Community Credit with Vancity. Formerly with CIBC, Bruce has a long history as an Account Manager and Risk Manager. He enjoys the culture at Vancity and it excites him to find creative ways to lend to sustainable local businesses in sectors such as local and organic food, green businesses, social enterprises, and energy and the environment.

Samantha Rossman

Samantha Rossman is a Partner with Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. She represents Canadian, U.S. and international financial institutions as well as corporate borrowers, including those in the mining and natural resources sectors in connection with project financings, bilateral and syndicated loan transactions, second lien and mezzanine financings, asset-based lending transactions, commercial real estate loan transactions and cross-border transactions.

She also has experience in structured finance transactions, including securitizations and a broad range of derivative products and transactions.

Doug Ryder

Doug Ryder, CPA, CA, CBV is Partner of Transactions and Valuation at Grant Thornton LLC. He specializes in mergers and acquisitions, capital structuring, strategic planning and capital sourcing. Doug has considerable experience in developing revenue and cash flow models relating to asset provisioning, strategic expansion and long-term financial management. He guides clients on corporate acquisition and project feasibility and also routinely performs valuation engagements to support corporate transactions, litigation matters and project viability.

Derek Strong

Derek Strong, Regional Director at Roynat Capital is a veteran banker who oversees a $700M portfolio of mid-market manufacturing, service and distribution companies with loans and investments in the $1-$50M range. Derek assists clients with non-traditional financing for growth and transition, acquisitions and divestitures, restructuring of debt and equity capital, expansion and strategic partnerships. His specialty is providing creative financing solutions for changes in ownership.

Jake Switzer

Jake Switzer is an Associate with Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. His practice focuses on banking, corporate finance, financial restructuring and corporate commercial law. He has a broad range of experience managing transactions, advising borrowers, lenders and sponsors, handling financial restructurings and workouts, and working on domestic and cross-border acquisitions and financings. Many of Jake’s previous deals have involved high-profile financings, several of which have been noted for their scope or importance in international banking markets.

Prior to Blakes, Jake worked at one of London’s preeminent international law firms. During his time in London, he also spent the better part of a year working at a leading global investment bank. Before moving to London in 2007, Jake was an Associate at Blakes in Toronto.
